This section takes you through the old and new processes of Maxilliofacial treatment.

Old Process

New process

Step 1 - Seat paitent comfortably, cover hair and coat eybrows with cold cream to proevententrapment of alignate.

Step 1 - Seat paitent comfortably, Adjust reciever on patients head. Scanner imaging, Polhemus FastScan digital scanner

Step 2 - Alignate mixed. Patient learns hand signals protocol to communicate. Pouring of alignate on forehead to allowfor flow down the face.

Step 2 - Original scan points 367,750.

Step 3 - Alignate poured taking care not to entrap air in anatomical undercut areas. Sheet of cotton placed on unset areas. Incase the patient is traumatized (children or burns victims with painful skins) by process anaesthesia is needed.

Step 3 - Excess points cleaned 338,210.

Step 4 - Wet plaster is squeezed to remove excess water. Plaster strips conform to irregualar contours to the alignate. Complete plaster is backed with gauze. Air pockets must not be allowed to develop.

Step 4 - Rough patch application leaving holes.
Patches: 1143 and Triangles: 499.105.

Step 5 - Guaze stockinetis removed from patients hair.Impression is removed from patients face (allowing time for patients eyes to adjust to light in the room).

Step 5 - Fill holes to leave rough surface.
Patches: 1143 and Triangles: 518,936.

Step 6 - Impression disinfected. Air passage blocked in impression. Exposed plaster coated with petroleum jelly to prevent bonding with stone cast. Stone allowed to gently flow over the surface of the alignate.

Step 6 - Fill small holes and smooth surface.

Step 7 - Stone cast or moulage may need trimming on model trimmer. complete stone cast with any markings on mask.

Step 7 - Smooth boundries.

Step 8 - Polygonize. Thicken boundary.

 

Step 9 - Convert to STL file. Print to ABS using FDM technique. Thermoforming of the mask using the mold made by Rapid Manufacturing.
